AHECS is celebrating 55 years this year.
This history of AHECS from 1969 to 1999 was written by the late Derek Scholfield and gives background information on why and how Careers Services were established and refers back as far as – Oxford in 1892, TCD in 1902, Queens in 1920, and the 3 NUI colleges in 1934.
The History of AHECS 1969 -1999
The Association was established in 1969 as The Association of Irish University Careers and Appointments Services (AIUCAS). It was renamed Association of Higher Education Careers Services (AHECS) and is now the recognised voice of Higher Education Careers and Employability professionals across Ireland, representing 26 Universities, Technological Universities and Institutes of Technology.
